Summer is one of the most popular times to go on vacation. And whether you are spending a week at the shore or in a cabin by the mountains, we bet you’d like to take your air filter with you! It’s easy to take your air filter with you on summer vacation and a great way to keep your breathing comfortable and easy.

One of the biggest challenges of going to any new environment for an allergy or asthma sufferer if you wonder if something is going to trigger your allergies. Whether it is too much dust, a little mold in the air or someone’s pet that was staying there – a potential allergen could be lurking to bother you. Certainly not something any of us like to deal with on summer vacation.

If you are renting a house for vacation, it is very easy to bring your air purifier filter. Consider asking the people you are renting from if you can plug in your air filter. Air filters don’t use a lot of electricity so they likely won’t have any reason to say no to your request. Simply add it to your supplies when you pack the car. Remember to bring an extra air filter in case you wish to change it. Protect your air filter during travel by wrapping it securely, either in a box or surrounding it with towels or other protective padding.

If you are staying in a hotel or other location, you may want to ask if you can bring it. Some locations may be curious if you appear, ready to plug something in. But if you have gotten permission ahead of time to bring it, then it will be smooth sailing the whole way. It is far easier to ask ahead than it is to stand at check in and ask someone to consider your request.

If you are staying in someone’s home, you can probably bring your air filter. Ask them ahead of time. You are doing your host a kindness by bringing your air filter as an allergy or asthma sufferer because it means you will be more comfortable – and most hosts worry about their guests comfort. Ask them where you should plug it in.

Today’s air filters are comfortable and convenient. You can count on them to clean a large room and to be powerful and strong. They are not troublesome to carry with you on a vacation. While most of us don’t like to think of carrying our air filter everywhere, the thought of living without our air filters once we have one is often unimaginable.

The first time I brought my air filter on vacation my family fussed a little bit. One family member thought I was being a little particular by bringing it with me. But I knew that I would sleep so much better by having it with me. And I was glad that I did. We stayed in a cottage by the shore, with a bit of a mold problem. While everyone else was okay and just complained about the smell – I am allergic to mold. Without that air filter, I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy my vacation fully. With my antihistamine and the air filter, I could stay on vacation and spend time with my family.

No matter where you go, enjoy your vacation and we hope that you breathe a little easier with your air filter by your side.

Are you staying with family this summer vacation? If you’re like most allergy and asthma sufferers, you probably can’t imagine a weekend or week away from your air filter. You know you won’t sleep as well or be as comfortable. It’s so frustrating! Well it doesn’t have to be that hard – did you know you actually can bring your air filter with you when you stay with family on summer vacation? Just try our air filter etiquette tips before you show up at their door with your air filter in hand.

The typical host/hostess wants their guests to be comfortable in their home. If you leave your air filter at home you probably will be uncomfortable with your allergies. An air filter easily fits in the corner of a room, doesn’t make a lot of noise and won’t disturb anyone. From most points of view, this is a low-key request to make to ask to bring your air filter along. Some guests might feel most comfortable offering to pay a little towards the electric bill because they are plugging something in – though your air filter doesn’t use that much electricity. Still it is a thoughtful thing to do for your host and they will appreciate the gesture.

Take responsibility for your air filter during the vacation. Once you have gotten the “yes” to bring your air filter, take the responsibility of managing it during the vacation. Ask where you should plug it in and put it exactly where they tell you to. Remind young children it is not a toy and won’t offer any type of entertainment. Tell your host or hostess how to turn it on or off in case they wish to do so. While you might leave your air filter on all the time, your host or hostess may wish you to turn it off while you are out during the day. Follow their wishes in their home.

Pack your air filter gently for travel for summer vacation. A box and some towels for cushioning are a good choice. Lying it flat or on its side can also be useful. Don’t let your air filter slide around in the car. It should be secure and not bounce. It also should not have the hot sun on it all the time, cover it with something. Your air filter is an expensive device; you’ll want to cover it to protect it from prying eyes as you travel, stop for gas and food along the way.

Remember to bring an extra air filter with you. There’s something stressful about summer vacations for many of us. It seems we always forget to do something or leave something behind. Bring an extra air filter so if your air filter is ready to be changed, you can easily do that. It may be hard to find your air filter quickly on your summer vacation. This also will help keep you comfortable.

Enjoy your summer vacation!
