Does your teen have allergies or asthma? A great way to help them feel more comfortable is to put an air filter in their room. But this can be even more challenging when your teen is messy or disorganized. Air filters are expensive and sensitive machines – many parents are then concerned that because their teen can’t take care of other belongings they won’t be able to take good care of an air filter. There are many reasons you should help your messy teen manage an air filter.

Many teens go through a period of being messy. Whether they have hectic schedules or are feeling rebellious – their room seems to be a safe place to express themselves. This messy period simply doesn’t last forever. Quite often, a teen realizes that being messy is costing them more time and energy – and it just makes more sense to be better organized. Your teen will probably outgrow this messy period – and likely in a shorter time than you think they will.

Adding an air filter purifier is a vote of confidence. Giving them an air filter machine to care for is an implicit message saying, “I trust you to take care of this.” Any teen would know you wouldn’t do this if you didn’t think they could take care of it. So simply by giving them the air filter you are encouraging them not to be messy. To take better care of their things.

Teach them how to take care of the air filter. Some messy teens simply don’t know how to care for things. Show your teen not to stack things on top of an air filter and how to change the air filter refills every few months as needed. Show them this machine needs to be near the wall but not right up against it so the air can flow behind and around the machine. Getting them interested in the machine will help them take better care of it.

After a few days, ask your teen how they are feeling. If they are sleeping better or just feel differently. The air filter is cleaning the air and they may notice they are going to sleep quicker because they are breathing deeper or they are sleeping sounder. Or they feel more relaxed because they are breathing better, cleaner air. As your teen realizes this machine is helping them, they will know it is important to care for it.

Every parent probably wonders if this attitude will carry over into the rest of their messy room and belongings. While your teen may never be a neat freak who irons their socks, they will probably realize that taking care of their belongings is important. And as they see they are feeling better with thanks to their air filter they see how one of their belongings adds great value to their life. To not have it would be very frustrating and disappointing. So taking care of it is just part of daily life – just like keeping your room neat and clean.

If your college student suffers from allergies or asthma, a smart purchase can be an air purifier. Some parents may wonder if they should get their college student an air purifier. How do you know it is the best time to get them a purifier?

Any student can benefit from an air filter purifier, not just one who has allergies or asthma. People with air purifier tend to breathe easier and sleep sounder. If your college student has lots of tests and projects, it would please many parents to know they’d be able to sleep more soundly the night before a big test or to be breathing easier regularly. Some dorms have things an air filter can help to purify such as cigarette smoke and cooking smells. As you can see, there are many reasons to get an air purifier for your college student. Not simply for the college student with allergies or asthma.

It is important that an air purifier be treated with proper care. If your college student is known for misplacing things or not treating their belongings well, you may need to explain how to care for an air filter. Caring for an air filter is not difficult but not using it properly will mean it does not work effectively. Don’t hang clothing or other objects over it. Don’t sit or lean on it. The best thing to do with your air filter is to put it in a corner or part of the room where it can be out of the way of regular activity. Many college students are social and like to have friends in their rooms. Friends need to understand that the air filter needs to be treated properly.

The air filter needs to be changed occasionally so it works best. For most users this will be several times a year. It is probably most convenient for college parents to give their college student the air filter with several air filters to change when they need changing. This way they are ready to change the air filter as needed. Or give them ordering instructions so they know how to order them and understand when a refill will be needed.

Don’t be surprised if you hear from your college student that they are getting a better night’s sleep. They may feel better overall, a sign that they are just breathing better and more deeply. If others smoke in the dorm or cooking smells have bothered them, these may no longer be experienced. It is very pleasing to know the air filter is doing its job well.

An air purifier is the ideal gift for any college student; they will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
